Sarasota County Film Commissioner Appointed Co-Chair of Film Florida Committee
Sarasota, Fla. (October 15, 2008)—Jeanne Corcoran, director of the Sarasota County Film & Entertainment Office (SCFEO), a division of the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County (EDC), has been appointed co-chair of Film Florida’s statewide Legislative Committee. Film Florida is a not-for-profit association that provides a leadership role in Florida’s film and entertainment industries. The organization’s mission is to offer businesses and individuals the benefits of a statewide trade association to promote the creation of jobs in the film and entertainment production industries and to promote economic development and tourism. "As one of Florida's more than four dozen film commissions, the SCFEO realizes we must act as a unified team to benefit our state as well as our individual regions,” said Corcoran. “Some key Film Florida goals for the Legislative Committee are to raise the visibility and convey the immense, positive economic impact of our industry to legislators through education and outreach.”
Corcoran was appointed director of the SCFEO upon the division’s creation in February 2007, after nine years as a film commissioner in Nevada and a decade in the private sector as a writer, producer and creative director for film and television. The SCFEO has assisted more than 300 productions during the past 19 months, creating a direct economic impact of $2.5 million in revenues for Sarasota County.
The Sarasota County Film & Entertainment Office (SCFEO) is a division of the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County. It seeks to attract film, television, commercial, documentary and other media production to create content, produce and shoot on location in Sarasota County, as well as to serve the region’s resident production community, improve and expand its resources, provide intergovernmental liaison and proactively market and promote Sarasota County’s assets to the entertainment industry as a whole. The SCFEO is a member in good standing of the Association of Film Commissioners International, Film Florida and other industry organizations. www.filmsarasota.com
Kathy Baylis, president & CEO of the EDC, supports the SCFEO’s involvement in Film Florida. “Film and new media production provide an opportunity to diversify our local economy. We are pleased Sarasota County will be actively engaged in positioning the film industry as one of Florida’s economic leaders through Jeanne’s involvement in the committee. “
