Sarasota County Film Commissioner Appointed to Film Florida Leadership Positions
Sarasota, Fla. (July 1, 2009)—Jeanne Corcoran, director of the Sarasota County Film & Entertainment Office (SCFEO), a division of the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County (EDC), has been appointed to two Film Florida leadership positions.
Corcoran was appointed chair of the Film Florida Legislative Committee and was elected to also serve as co-vice chair of the organization’s Film Commission Council.
Film Florida is a not-for-profit association that provides a leadership role in Florida’s film and entertainment industries. The organization’s mission is to offer businesses and individuals the benefits of a statewide trade association to promote the creation of jobs in the film and entertainment production industries and to promote economic development and tourism.
As chair of the Film Florida Legislative Committee, Corcoran will develop and coordinate efforts by film commission members as well as community participants to convey a clear, unified message to Florida’s legislators regarding the positive economic impact of the film and digital media industry to Florida. The Legislative Committee also strives to integrate legislators into Film Florida events, programs, education and outreach.
Under the direction of Chair Lindsey Guthrie of the Tampa Bay Film Commission, Corcoran and co-vice chair Rita Brown of the Florida Keys Film Commission, will help lead the Film Commission Council. The Council coordinates the efforts of dozens of film commissions across the state and promotes their involvement in Film Florida programs and initiatives.
Corcoran joined the SCFEO upon the division’s creation in February 2007. Since that time, SCFEO has assisted more than 450 productions representing approximately $3.4 million of direct spending in Sarasota County. According to the Association of Film Commissioners International, that translates into an actual economic impact in excess of $10 million.
The Sarasota County Film & Entertainment Office (SCFEO) is a division of the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County. It seeks to attract film, television, commercial, documentary and other media production to create content, produce and shoot on location in Sarasota County, as well as to serve the region’s resident production community, improve and expand its resources, provide intergovernmental liaison and proactively market and promote Sarasota County’s assets to the entertainment industry as a whole. The SCFEO is a member in good standing of the Association of Film Commissioners International, Film Florida and other industry organizations. www.filmsarasota.com
